After the decision in favor of a higher climate protection target for the European Union, the Bundestag CSU also wants to sharpen the German target for greenhouse gas reduction.

"On the basis of the new European climate target, we are campaigning for an ambitious German climate target of 60 percent," says a draft resolution for the CSU regional group's winter retreat at the beginning of January, which the German Press Agency in Munich had "Passauer Neue Presse" (Thursday) reported about it.

"We have the clear claim to be pioneers in climate protection." The CSU emphasizes in the paper: "The resulting measures must be demonstrably effective and combine economy and ecology."

Germany's current target is 55 percent less CO2 emissions by 2030, compared to 1990, the same year. The EU-wide target was raised from 40 to 55 percent in December.

Green boss Robert Habeck then recently called for Germany to raise the target to at least 65 percent greenhouse gas reduction by 2030.

In the paper entitled “Growth Agenda for Jobs and Economy in Germany”, the CSU calls for a reduction in corporate taxes, a doubling of research funding and an increase in the mini-job limit to 600 euros.

In addition, it proposes a ten billion euro investment offensive to strengthen battery cell research and production as well as to develop a comprehensive charging and refueling infrastructure for alternative drives.

"Our goal is that everyone can reach e-quick charging stations nationwide within 10 minutes," says the draft.

In addition, the Bundestag CSU reaffirms its call for a permanent reduction in VAT in the catering sector.

The regulation introduced due to the Corona crisis, which is limited to June 30, 2021, should be indefinitely, meals in restaurants and pubs should be permanently taxed at the reduced VAT rate.
