Chemnitz (dpa / sn) - According to experts, the Corona crisis is increasingly making vocational training in some industries more difficult.

According to the information, many companies are sticking to the training of young skilled workers.

But the repeated closure of hotels, restaurants, hairdressers, beauty salons, leisure facilities and shops restricts the practice for the apprentices.

"At the moment the companies are trying to continue the training in any way," said Gabriele Hecker, the director of education at the Chemnitz Chamber of Commerce and Industry, of the German press agency.

Consideration is being given to creating inter-company offers for practical training in the catering industry, for example.

The question of how the young people complete their apprenticeships in view of the fact that companies are closed has already given him sleepless nights, admitted the head of the Employment Agency in Saxony, Klaus-Peter Hansen.

"And do the young people hold onto their apprenticeship position if the lockdown lasts longer?"

Hansen assumes that the experience of the Corona crisis will have a long-term effect on career choices.

"In the long term, safety is an important criterion for many families when they advise their children on choosing a training place."

Sectors with poor prognoses could run into problems in the future when looking for apprentices.

The corona pandemic had less impact on the start of training this year than was initially expected.

According to earlier information, the chambers of industry and commerce booked around 10,500 new training contracts by the end of September, 7.8 percent fewer than in the previous year.

The minus was particularly strong in the hotel and catering sector.

Many school leavers already had their training contracts in their pockets in the spring when the corona pandemic broke out, explained Hansen.

"We're much more worried about the current year of training."

In view of the elimination of internships and training fairs, career orientation and personal contact with companies are made more difficult.

The employment agencies have switched to digital communication channels and hope to soon be able to make online offers via the school cloud Lernsax.

"It is important that we can continue to check," emphasized Hecker.

So far, this has been successful despite postponements and hygiene requirements.

But, in view of the lockdown, may training periods have to be extended?

Hecker currently sees no reason for this.

In her experience, the restrictions in career orientation primarily affect young people who need more advice and who need to be better assisted.

"Young people who are good and active will continue to care."

Other school leavers could be lost to the companies, she warned.

Hecker and Hansen do not see that the training market is turning in view of the economic problems.

This year, too, there will be an apprenticeship position for everyone who wants to start training, they assured.

But it won't always be the dream job.

But it was no different before Corona.
