Xinhua News Agency, Chengdu, December 31st (Yang Di, Wu Tao) On the morning of December 28th, Jiang Yongde, the "second-level hero and special hero" of the Shangganling campaign who lived in Yibin, Sichuan, and the "second-class hero and special hero" of the Shangganling battle who lived in Xianyang, Shaanxi Cai Xinghai paid tribute to the military salutes through mobile video and used this method to pay tribute to the comrades who participated in the Chinese People's Volunteers' fight against the US and aid Korea!

This video exchange, which was separated by more than 900 kilometers and lasted 15 minutes and 48 seconds, also fulfilled the network reunion of the two fighting heroes 67 years later.

In the mobile video, the two veterans reminisced about the iron-blooded battlefield in the past and tears, and they are very pleased to talk about their happy life.

Cai Xinghai, 89, and Jiang Yongde, 90, both served as deputy squad leaders of a certain division of the Volunteer Army. They were divided into the 91st Regiment and the 92nd Regiment, holding the 597.9 and 537.7 highlands respectively.

The Battle of Shangganling from October 14 to November 25, 1952, took place on these two highlands.

The battle lasted for 43 days. After repeated fierce battles, the Volunteer Army lost and regained positions many times, and finally shattered the enemy's attack.

The old man Jiang Yongde recalled that he and Cai Xinghai did not know each other during the war, and they met in North Korea because of a meeting after serving their merits.

Heroes cherish heroes, but they hate each other late.

After returning to China, the two took a group photo with several other comrades-in-arms in Shenyang in April 1953.

Later, the two also gathered in the capital, Beijing, and were invited to attend the May 1st and National Day ceremony in 1953, and were cordially received by party and state leaders.

The same experience has made the friendship between the two people more solid and profound.

But after a farewell in Beijing, the two gradually lost contact and did not meet again in 67 years.

Cai Xinghai later took the initiative to apply for a job in Tibet, where conditions are difficult. He stayed in Tibet for 17 years. He was not able to adapt to the high-cold climate and he returned from the army to work in Xianyang in 1982.

Jiang Yongde transferred from the army to Yibin and was set up to work in a phosphate fertilizer plant in Yibin.

After retirement, both of them led a quiet life full of children and grandchildren, and enjoyed family happiness.

2020 is the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteers' going abroad to fight against the US and aid Korea.

Cai Xinghai, who underwent rectal cancer resection, remembered his comrade-in-arms he hadn't seen in 67 years, and had the idea of looking for Jiang Yongde.

After the "Volunteer Army Veterans Assistance Program" public welfare team learned of Cai’s wishes, a Chengdu volunteer in the team immediately left a message on the official WeChat "Yibin Release" of the Yibin City Government Information Office, saying that Cai Xinghai, the old hero in the battle of Shangganling, hopes Can contact Jiang Yongde, a fellow Sichuan comrade...

After the leaders of the Yibin Veterans Bureau learned of the incident, they appointed a special person to take charge. He quickly found Jiang Yongde and asked him: Do you know Cai Xinghai, an old comrade-in-arms?

Old Jiang said: "Yes! Of course we do! We are life and death comrades!"

Therefore, on the morning of December 28, with the help of the children of both sides, Mr. Cai, who solemnly put on the uniform of the volunteer army and had medals on his chest, appeared on the phone screen in front of Mr. Jiang; at the same time, the founding of the People’s Republic of China was hanging on his chest. The 70th anniversary commemorative badge and the 70th anniversary commemorative badge of the Chinese People's Volunteers to fight against the US and aid Korea also appeared on the mobile phone in front of Cai.

Don't be glamorous and magnificent, and meet both temples.

The two veterans talked in the past and talked to the present, and they said goodbye after 15 minutes and 48 seconds of the video call. They told each other with military salute to take care!
