4 children were killed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo when a grenade they were playing with exploded.

The accident took place on Tuesday in the village of Tsuru, in the Djogo region of Ituri, which has been witnessing violence for years, local governor Adil Alinghi said.

"One of the children picked up the canister and another threw it in the air, and the bomb exploded when it fell, and the four children died instantly," Alinghi said.

The province is at the center of the violence blamed on fighters from the Organization for the Development of the Congo
