The incident occurred in the autumn and the 26-year-old got several car keys from the woman's home, but did not manage to steal any car.
The man did not get far, but was arrested in dramatic forms.
He refused to let go of the ax and the police had to take out their pistols.
But in the end, the ax was dropped to the ground without being fired.
Threatened family with a gun
Earlier in the year, the man also threatened a family with children with a gun through a window to their home in Mantorp.
But when he was not let in, he went on to another house where he forced himself to get car keys under gun threat.
In addition to imprisonment, the 26-year-old is also sentenced to pay a total of SEK 144,852 in damages to the victims.
