Rostock (dpa / mv) - As in all of Germany, it was significantly warmer and drier this year in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania than in previous years.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD) on Wednesday, an average temperature of 10.4 degrees was determined in the northeast in 2020.

In the so-called long-term mean, this value is 8.2 degrees.

This mean value results from the internationally valid reference period from 1961 to 1990. At the same time, according to the DWD, the amount of precipitation fell from the mean value of 595 liters to 551 liters and the number of hours of sunshine rose from 1648 to 1893 hours.

New temperature records have been set at numerous weather stations.

As an example, the DWD cited January 15, when an unusually mild 14.8 degrees were measured in Anklam.

The winter said goodbye as the warmest since measurements began in 1881.

On October 14, a northeast storm caused a storm surge with waves five meters high.

As in Wismar, the levels rose in some places to 1.40 meters above normal.

According to preliminary results, 2020 will go down in history as the second warmest in all of Germany.

The average temperature was 10.4 degrees.

So 2020 is just behind the record year 2018, in which the mean temperature was 10.5 degrees.
