The request for a crisis situation agreement applies to the staff in intensive care and intermediate care at the University Hospital.

Such an agreement means, among other things, that working hours can be extended to 48 hours per week.

“For the employees, this means that they can be scheduled with long shifts and we understand that it is difficult because they worked so hard during the entire pandemic.

But the situation is very serious and we must ensure that healthcare has the staffing needed to meet the needs.

This is a decision no one wants to make, but we have to make it ", says Emilie Orring (M), chair of the regional board, in the press release.

Strained situation

In the Uppsala Region, a special medical management has been set up to handle the corona pandemic.

That management notes that the personnel situation is very strained and that attempts have been made to resolve the situation in other ways, but that a crisis situation agreement is now considered necessary.

"We must guarantee care for the most seriously ill patients.

We have already done what is possible by redistributing resources, both within the region's own administrations and with the help of private care providers.

We also believe that the difficult situation at the hospital will continue for the foreseeable future ", says Director of Health and Medical Care Mikael Köhler.
