There is currently no indication that a person with a history of covid-19 infection could be re-infected.

The new vaccines against covid-19 will also work on the mutated virus variants.

But there is reason to increase control over the presence of new viruses, according to the Swedish Public Health Agency.

- When we now start vaccinating, it becomes even more important to look at different variants to ensure that the vaccine continues to work, says Anders Tegnell.

Looking for new virus variants in Sweden

Some positive test results with covid-19 will therefore be examined more closely in the lab, to see if it is the usual virus or a new variant.

- We will increase the proportion of randomly selected test results in the near future, says Anders Tegnell.

The individual's responsibility to test

It is still the individual's responsibility to test themselves if you have stayed in the UK.

According to Anders Tegnell, no authority has the opportunity to ensure that everyone who crosses Sweden's borders is tested because people come via different means of transport.

- It is not enough to just check those who come by plane.

That is why we want to go out with this broad appeal to everyone who has been to the UK.

So it is your assessment that Swedish authorities are doing everything they can in this situation?

- We do everything that can reasonably be done.

There is no guarantee that it will work all the time, but it will delay the spread of infection, says Anders Tegnell.
