Konstanz (dpa / lsw) - More people in Germany are optimistic about the new year.

In surveys by the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy, their share rose from 26 to 39 percent in November and December, as head Renate Köcher told the "Südkurier" (Thursday edition) in Konstanz.

"We didn't expect that."

One reason is that the vaccinations are now starting.

“But you also have to see that parts of the economy are doing remarkably well even in this crisis situation,” Köcher told the newspaper.

In the local environment, people are confronted with the difficult situation of many retailers, restaurateurs and cultural workers.

But large parts of the economy are little affected or are currently in a clear recovery process.

According to Köcher, what worries people is the feeling that they cannot calculate their future. "They don't know what's going to happen next week, they don't know when the crisis will end." The citizens are increasingly exhausted and annoyed.
