Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - After the fatal fire in an apartment building in downtown Wiesbaden, the police have no evidence of deliberate arson.

The exact cause of the fire on Tuesday has not yet been clarified, said a police spokesman on Wednesday morning.

An expert should examine the scene of the fire on Wednesday.

The house is not habitable.

An 85-year-old woman was killed in the fire on Tuesday. Her 82-year-old husband was taken to a burn clinic with serious injuries, and three residents were taken to Wiesbaden clinics for further treatment. Several residents of the house had fled to their balconies because of the smoke and were rescued with the help of two turntable ladders. The police initially estimated the property damage to be around 100,000 euros.
