First of all, it must be said that according to Swedish law

, a police permit is required

to set off fireworks at a place or at a time when there is a risk that people, animals or property will be injured or exposed to "significant inconvenience".

This means, according to the police, mainly places and times where many people are on the move or near houses and other buildings.

But many municipalities have also decided on local regulations that clarify what applies.

This is what it looks like in the Halland municipalities:

Laholm

This year, the municipality is tightening the rules compared with before.

You may fire rockets for three hours around noon on New Year's Eve - from 10 pm to 1 am. Other times, police permits are required at all locations in the municipality.

The decision has been appealed to a court, but is still valid until further notice.

Halmstad

In central Halmstad, it is forbidden to fire fireworks without a police permit at any time of the year, according to the municipality's rules of procedure.

A police permit is required in all public places in the municipality, except on New Year's Eve, Easter Eve and Walpurgis Night until 3 o'clock at night.

The exception is the center where a police permit is required every day of the year - see the map next to it.

There is also a total ban on fireworks closer than 200 meters from hospitals, nursing homes, nursing homes and service houses throughout the municipality and at Halmstad's riding hall at Mickedala.

Shelf

It is free to fire rockets throughout the municipality during New Year's Eve, Easter Eve and Walpurgis Night until 3 o'clock at night.

Other times, a police permit is required at all locations.

Falkenberg

Every day of the year, a police permit is required for fireworks in a public place within cohesive buildings.

No exceptions are made for New Year celebrations.

A total ban on fireworks always prevails within 200 meters of the health center in Falkenberg and at nursing homes.

Varberg

The Swedish Code of Conduct on Police Permits is what applies.

There are no other local rules here.

Kungsbacka

You must "show the greatest possible consideration for the surroundings", is the only thing that says about fireworks in the municipality's local regulations.

There are thus no local rules in addition to the requirement for a police permit according to Swedish law.

In 2020, Kungsbacka municipality tried to introduce tougher requirements for police permits in all places in the municipality, with the exception of four hours (21-01) on Easter Eve and New Year's Eve.

But this has been stopped by the County Administrative Board and thus does not apply.

So say the police

- Make sure you are in a place where there are no people nearby, follow the safety instructions that come with the rockets and be sober, says police superintendent Peter Ågren in SVT's Morgonstudion.
