Budapest (AP) - The Hungarian opera singer and Wagner interpreter Sandor Solyom-Nagy is dead. He died at the age of 79, reported the Hungarian state news agency MTI, citing the Ministry of Human Resources on Wednesday.

The baritone singer appeared in 238 performances at the Bayreuth Festival from 1981.

Solyom-Nagy graduated from the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest in 1966.

He then belonged to the ensemble of the Hungarian State Opera, where he made a name for himself as one of the leading hero baritones of his time.

In addition to numerous roles in operas by Richard Wagner, he sang Papageno in Mozart's “Magic Flute” and Falstaff in the Verdi opera of the same name.

Guest engagements took him to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and the Vienna State Opera.

He also made a name for himself as an oratorio and lieder singer.

He also participated in numerous recordings.

In 2009 he said goodbye to the stage.
