Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The end of the Christmas holidays is getting closer and closer and with it the question of how things will continue for children in schools and daycare centers and their parents in the corona pandemic.

At least for the first week of January, the regulations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have been set.

An overview:

KITAS:

As before the Christmas holidays, childcare is still possible.

This also applies to the first week of January.

The time of on-site support is not restricted.

However, the Ministry of Social Affairs continues to appeal to parents to take care of their children at home whenever possible.

According to a spokesman, around 20 to 25 percent of children across the country were still in daycare before the start of the Christmas holidays.

According to the ministry, daycare workers can be tested up to five times free of charge.

This is initially still possible until the end of March 2021.

Accordingly, there were around 1700 corona tests by Christmas.

So far, around 160 corona cases have been detected in daycare centers, the distribution between infected children and educators is roughly the same.

SCHOOLS:

Here, too, parents are asked to leave their children at home in the first week of January, if possible.

There they should then do tasks.

Compulsory attendance has been lifted for all pupils nationwide.

According to the Ministry, the schools are generally open for grades 1 to 6 if parents cannot look after their children.

There teachers help with the tasks.

The Ministry asks you to register the children in advance by email if possible so that the schools can plan better.

Regular school traffic, for example with buses, is still guaranteed.

BASICALLY:

Parents do not have to provide evidence in schools (up to grade 6) or in daycare centers if they cannot look after their children at home.

HOW TO FOLLOW THAT:

In the first week of January at the latest, a decision must be made on how to proceed with daycare centers and schools nationwide.

Education Minister Bettina Martin (SPD) recently pleaded for the resumption of on-site teaching in schools, at least for the final grades and the younger grades.
