Berlin (dpa) - Berlin's Senator for Health Dilek Kalayci (SPD) has criticized the currently low number of vaccine doses against the corona virus for the capital.

"We are all disappointed with the small amounts," said Kalayci on Wednesday morning on RBB Inforadio.

"We have 58,500 vaccine doses this year."

That is just enough for the residents in the nursing homes.

In the new year, a further 29,250 cans are expected per calendar week.

It annoys them immensely that it is not yet clear for deliveries in the first week of 2021 whether they will be delivered on Sunday or Monday.

"There are very high contracts nationwide, which means that it won't be down to the total amount, but it is primarily a time factor."

It would be of no use if the vaccine came at the end of the year, "we need it now," said Kalayci.

Also due to the lack of vaccine, the vaccination center in the arena hall in Treptow was closed again on Tuesday just two days after it opened.

Kalayci emphasized on Inforadio that it would not start operating again until January 4th.

The vaccinations in Berlin started on Sunday.

Mobile vaccination teams were out and about in retirement and nursing homes.

In Treptow, the city's largest vaccination center with 80 vaccination booths, the employees from the nursing homes should first be vaccinated.
