Berlin (dpa) - The 48th edition of the Eisspeedway Berlin planned for next March cannot take place.
"With a heavy heart, we finally decided to put all preparatory activities on hold and to cancel the ice speedway Berlin with World Cup and DM, which was planned from March 4th to 7th," said Olaf Ehrke, the 1st chairman of the Berlin Ice Speedway Union (ESU), quoted in a press release on Wednesday.
On January 1, the contracts with partners and service providers would have come into effect, which would have resulted in contractual penalties if they were not complied with due to the particular pandemic situation.
Thus, there was no alternative to the unanimous rejection of the extraordinary board meeting in order to protect the association from major financial damage.
Ehrke criticized the responsible offices and authorities who, according to the organizer, did not react to the 53-page hygiene concept submitted in October.
There wouldn't even have been a receipt.
The club wants to catch up on the 48th edition in March 2022 in the Horst Dohm ice stadium.
