Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock (dpa / lnw) - She is said to have not properly helped a person suffering from dementia who drank disinfectants and thus poisoned himself: The German Red Cross (DRK) has therefore dismissed a long-term nurse (50) without notice.

The DRK district association Gütersloh announced on Wednesday.

The 89-year-old resident of a senior citizens' flat-sharing community in Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock (Gütersloh district) had therefore drank the disinfectant on Tuesday night for reasons that are still unclear.

Another employee found him early in the morning "in a helpless and life-threatening condition," according to the DRK.

The senior was then taken to a hospital and treated in an intensive care unit.

During the course of Tuesday, according to the DRK, it turned out that the 50-year-old nurse noticed the 89-year-old's condition during the night, but had not called the ambulance service as planned.

What exactly she did then was still unclear, said a DRK spokesman.

Their behavior led to the release and the police had been informed.

"We have no understanding of this serious misconduct by the employee," said the board spokesman for the DRK district association, Dennis Schwoch, according to the announcement.

According to the DRK, the man's condition was critical.

He had tested positive for the corona virus before the incident and was in quarantine within the senior citizens' community.
