Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg has complained to the neighboring state of Rhineland-Palatinate about increasing vaccination tourism.

According to the Ministry of Health, many people from the Rhineland-Palatinate border region in Baden-Württemberg register for vaccination because this is not yet possible in Rhineland-Palatinate.

In the south-west, citizens have been able to make an appointment for a vaccination since December 27; in Rhineland-Palatinate, appointments will not start until January 4.

Health Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) emphasized in a letter to his Rhineland-Palatinate counterpart Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (SPD) that Baden-Württemberg decided to give individual appointments from day one.

The letter has been submitted to the German Press Agency.

"If appointments are now given to people from other federal states whose state governments have different strategies, this leads to an uneven distribution of the scarce good vaccine," criticizes Lucha.

The quotas were distributed to the federal states according to the number of inhabitants.

Lucha writes that he urgently wants to ask the population of Rhineland-Palatinate to be patient and to refer to the allocation of appointments in Rhineland-Palatinate.

"If there is a permanent imbalance, in my opinion we should also talk about a balance."

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health confirmed that citizens from Bavaria had also reported who wanted to be vaccinated in Baden-Württemberg.

For the next six weeks, the appointments in the country are largely taken.
