Oberstdorf (dpa) - The two-time Four Hills Tournament winner Kamil Stoch is hoping for a learning effect after the corona chaos around the Polish team.
"I hope that this has shown a few mistakes in the system for the future and that it won't happen again," said the 33-year-old on Tuesday evening after his second place in the opening ski jumping in Oberstdorf behind local hero Karl Geiger.
After a positive test by Klemens Muranka, the entire Polish team for Oberstdorf was initially excluded from qualification and the competition.
After two more negative tests, the deployment of Polish politicians and the lifting of the quarantine by the health department, the team around defending champion Dawid Kubacki and Olympic champion Stoch got a start.
Stoch used it best on Tuesday.
"It was a fantastic day," he said.
"I can only thank our coaches: They fought for us to the end."
