According to Korean media reports, South Korea’s Ministry of Justice and other relevant departments stated on the 29th that in order to welcome the New Year of 2021, 3,024 people will be granted special pardons. The targets include general criminals and social contradictions.

This is the fourth amnesty given by South Korean President Moon Jae-in since taking office.

  According to reports, the target of this pardon does not include political prisoners.

Former South Korean presidents Park Geun-hye and Lee Myung-bak were all excluded.

Currently, both Park Geun-hye and Lee Myung-bak are being held in prison to serve their sentences.

  The Ministry of Justice stated that the purpose of this pardon is to reduce the burden of ordinary people and provide a turning point for the people to reconcile and overcome the crisis when the national difficulties have been aggravated by the spread of the new crown epidemic.
