Mainz (dpa / lrs) - A smoke detector and attentive neighbors probably saved the life of a 39-year-old in a smoky apartment in Mainz.
The neighbors were made aware of the beeping of the detector, as the fire department announced on Tuesday.
They rang the doorbell and knocked on the front door and finally called the fire department.
The emergency services opened the door and found the unconscious man in the kitchen.
The cause of the smoke was burnt food on the stove, which the fire brigade quickly put out.
The 39-year-old was taken to a clinic.
