Bremen (AP) - The years of legal dispute between the former professional footballer Ivan Klasnic and former doctors of the Bundesliga club Werder Bremen came to an end on Tuesday with a settlement.

The Bremen Higher Regional Court announced.

Sportschau.de had previously reported on it.

The now 40-year-old Klasnic filed a lawsuit in 2008 and demanded compensation for pain and suffering because he accused the doctors of being responsible for his kidney damage by administering excessive pain medication.

Klasnic has now had three kidney transplants.

The court did not state what the settlement included.

"At the request of the parties, the court can not provide any details about the content of the settlement," said the statement.
