Hamburg / Lübeck (dpa / lno) - Because of a loud bang, a regional train made an emergency braking on Tuesday afternoon between Lübeck and Hamburg.

According to initial findings, there was probably a small explosion when the train ran over a plastic container filled with firecrackers in the track bed, as a federal police spokesman for the German press agency said.

None of the 100 or so passengers were injured during the emergency braking.

Because of the incident between the Hamburg-Rahlstedt and Wandsbek stops, there were delays and train cancellations in regional traffic, according to Deutsche Bahn.

At times, a replacement rail service was set up.

According to the federal police, the train driver could not find any major damage to the affected regional train. The train arrived at the Wandsbeck train station in the early evening. There he should be examined further by officials from the State Criminal Police Office. The passengers had to wait on board for more than an hour and a half before they could continue their journey.
