Mainz (AP) - FSV Mainz 05 will probably not introduce a new coach before the upcoming Bundesliga game on Sunday (6 p.m. / Sky) at Bayern.

The Bundesliga team is currently planning that interim coach Jan Siewert will look after the team in Munich, said the new sports director Martin Schmidt at a press conference on Tuesday.

The new head coach could then be presented in the coming week.

"We want a new trainer, a new stimulus, a new impetus," said Schmidt.

In the short time over Christmas, an obligation was not possible.

Schmidt did not comment on names.

However, Schmidt said that the former Mainz professional Bo Svensson was being traded "not so absurd" as the Dane was known in the club.

“We don't say anything about the names, it's funny, some of what is intended for us.

We have specific ideas.

We're working hard on it. "

The Rheinhessen had already announced the return of the former success manager Christian Heidel and von Schmidt on Monday.

Coach Jan-Moritz Lichte had the table-17.

«Nobody embodies the development of the association like he does», said the chairman of the supervisory board Detlev Höhne about Heidel.

It was “not a nostalgic decision, but one for the future of the association”.

Up until four years ago, Heidel had worked for Mainz for almost a quarter of a century, took them to the Bundesliga and is considered the discoverer of today's coaching stars Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel.

For him it was "a feeling like coming home," said Heidel.

A lot has changed.

"But it still stayed my club," said the 57-year-old, who worked for FC Schalke as a sports director from 2016 to 2019.

Schmidt, last coach at FC Augsburg, spoke of a "heartfelt motivation" to return to the 05ers.

He was an FSV trainer from 2015 to 2017.
