Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's universities are to receive a further injection of funds to expand digital teaching despite the billion-dollar financial package that has already been agreed.

Science Minister Theresia Bauer (Greens) says she is negotiating additional funds from the rescue package amounting to 70 million euros.

The universities had "a legitimate need for additional funds," said Bauer of the German press agency.

However, you would have to use the money earmarked for the digital, for example to pay for IT specialists, hardware, software or licenses.

The state has been investing in the digitization of universities for several years.

Last semester, it approved 40 million euros in emergency aid for corona-related additional needs.

Beginning at the turn of the year and up to and including 2025, the state is already giving a total of 1.8 billion euros in addition to the facilities through the so-called university financing agreement (HoFV).

The contract affects the state universities in the southwest, where around 330,000 students are enrolled.
