France: the French Communist Party celebrates its 100 years
Created in 1920 at the Congress of Tours, the Communist Party played a key role in the resistance.
It was born out of a split from the Socialist Party.

The French Communist Party (PCF) is 100 years old.
The first party in France to emerge from World War II, born out of a split from the Socialist Party in December 1920, is today a small party.
With 3% of votes in the last European elections, it still retains a local base.
But what future for the PCF?

First political formation at the end of the Second World War with more than 800,000 inserts, the Communist Party will govern several times with its friends on the left.
But the fall of the Soviet Union, the Communist big sister, confirmed a decline that had started a few years earlier.
The PCF resists thanks to local elections
If in the national elections, the Communist Party now collects only a few percentages of the votes, it resists thanks to the local elections.
Last year, for example, the Party lost several of its strongholds, but had 620 mayors elected.
