Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - With the help of the dropout program “Spurwechsel”, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is of the opinion that many people are able to get rid of right-wing extremism.

"To date, the program has successfully supported over 200 people in a sustainable distance from the right-wing extremist scene," said a spokesman for the NRW interior ministry of the "Rheinische Post" (Tuesday).

The program has so far dealt with 425 people from the right-wing scene.

"The number of people accompanied at the same time can be kept constant for years at an average of almost 50 people," said the spokesman.

The program for dropouts from left-wing extremism (“Left”), launched two years ago, took care of around 40 people. "Currently, a total of 17 people are actively supported in their exit process by Left," said the spokesman. The state dropout programs offer members of the extremist scene years of assistance in returning to democratic society.
