London (AP) - The World Cup adventure of the German darts hopeful Gabriel Clemens is over.

The 37-year-old Saarlander lost his round of 16 dramatically 3: 4 against his Polish opponent Krzysztof Ratajski.

The Pole will now face Stephen Bunting or Ryan Searle (both England) in the quarter-finals on New Years.

"German Giant" Clemens could not confirm his famous performance of 4: 3 over world champion Peter Wright this time and ran after a deficit the whole evening.

Clemens was previously the first German professional to reach the round of 16 at a World Cup.

The best German arrow thrower had previously won all five direct duels against Ratajski.

After his coup over Champion Wright, the way to the semi-finals seemed open.

Pole Ratajski (ranked 15th), Bunting (26th) and Searle (unset) are all not among the closest world leaders.

On Wednesday, six more round of 16 with ex-champ Gary Anderson from Scotland and co-favorite Gerwyn Price from Wales are on the program.
