The post-Brexit agreement, concluded in extremis last week between Brussels and London, will be applied provisionally from January 1, after the green light from representatives of EU member states on Monday.
MEPs will still have to definitively validate the text in early 2021.
“The ambassadors (of the 27) unanimously approved the provisional application on 1 January 2021 of the trade and cooperation agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom”, and the formal adoption by governments is expected of 'here Tuesday at 3 p.m. (2 p.m. GMT), tweeted a spokesperson for the German EU Presidency.
The UK parliament's vote on the deal will take place on Wednesday.
