In Russia, in one day, the number of victims of Covid-19 has tripled.
According to Rosstat, the official statistics agency, 186,000 people have died from Covid-19 or from the consequences of illness due to the coronavirus since the start of the year.
Russia therefore becomes one of the countries most bereaved by the epidemic, after the United States and Brazil.

In Russia, from January to November, the number of deaths increased by 14% compared to the same period in 2019. For the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of health, 81% of this excess mortality is linked to Covid-19.
This represents 186,000 people, or three times more than the 55,000 deaths officially recorded so far, which made Vladimir Poutine say that Russia was managing the pandemic better than certain European countries.
So where does this difference come from?
Quite simply, the method of calculation.
The government only listed deaths due to Covid-19 alone confirmed by autopsy.
By adding those for which Covid-19 is suspected to be the cause and those in whom the coronavirus has accentuated other pathologies that have led to death, we obtain a figure more representative of the situation.
A worrying situation in view of the new contaminations which have peaked above 25,000 per day for several weeks.
While the government is counting on
vaccination to curb the epidemic
, a recent poll shows that only 38% of Russians intend to be vaccinated.
