These figures place Russia in third place in the world, behind the United States (more than 330,000 dead) and Brazil (more than 190,000).

This toll is also more than three times higher than the 55,265 official deaths recorded since the start of the pandemic by the government site dedicated to the fight against the pandemic.

The latter, however, counts from day to day only Covid-19 deaths confirmed by an autopsy.

It is on the basis of these figures that Russia prides itself on having responded to the challenge of the new coronavirus better than most Western countries.

But according to Rosstat, in the month of November alone, 25,788 people died from contamination with the new coronavirus.

This is the first time that the office has published detailed monthly figures, without giving these details for previous months.

Russia, like the rest of the world, has been hit since the autumn by a second epidemic wave.
