Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - The judges of the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court are expecting a series of further terrorist proceedings in 2021.

This also includes the trial against former Bundeswehr Lieutenant Franco A., as the Higher Regional Court (OLG) announced on Monday in Frankfurt.

This process was originally supposed to start in 2020, but it had been postponed due to the heavy burden on the court.

The court did not specify an exact time for the start.

Franco A. is charged with preparing a serious state-endangering act of violence.

However, he is not in pre-trial detention, which is why the proceedings are not brought to court in an accelerated manner.

He is said to have procured weapons for alleged right-wing extremist motivation in order to carry out attacks on the then Justice Minister Heiko Maas and the Vice President of the Bundestag, Claudia Roth.

He is said to have posed as a Syrian to direct suspicion of refugees.

In addition, further charges related to Islamist terrorism or alleged crimes in Syria have been announced by the Federal Prosecutor's Office and the Public Prosecutor General, said OLG President Roman Poseck.

While the trial of the murder of the Kassel government president Walter Lübcke is expected to end at the end of January, an end to the genocide trial of the religious minority of the Yazidis in Iraq is not yet in sight.

The trial started in April.
