Nortorf / Gleschendorf (dpa / lno) - On Sunday in Schleswig-Holstein up to 200 farmers protested loudly with their tractors against what they saw as a threat to the price of agricultural products.

The background of the actions in the districts of Rendsburg-Eckernförde and Ostholstein are current butter price negotiations between the discounter Aldi and the dairies, said the chairwoman of the Association Land Creates Connection Schleswig-Holstein (LSV), Uta Schmidt-Kühl, on Monday the German press agency .

A reduction of 40 percent is under discussion.

Aldi-Nord could not be reached on Monday.

In Nortorf, the farmers protested on Sunday evening with up to 100 vehicles and loud horns in front of the Aldi central warehouse, as the police announced on Monday.

Due to the low volume of traffic, there were no traffic obstructions despite the tractor column.

However, residents had complained about the noise.

The farmers had then given up honking the horn.

Up to 100 tractors had also gathered in front of the Aldi central warehouse in Gleschendorf in the municipality of Scharbeutz, as Schmidt-Kühl said.

The protests are expected to continue on Monday evening in front of a dairy in Barmstedt (Pinneberg district).

The association is disappointed because there have already been initial discussions with the major food retailers Aldi, Rewe, Lidl and Edeka with a view to prices and these should be continued in January.

The negotiations that Aldi has now started with the dairies for lower butter prices are therefore “a slap in the face”.

In addition, the farmers are desperate.

«That is the sheer existential fear.

Nothing to do with fun and enjoyment.

That is pure despair, ”Schmidt-Kühl defended the protests.
