Mr. Haneda was elected to the Nagano constituency of the House of Councilors five times.



After serving as the secretary of his father, Tsutomu Hata, he was elected for the first time in the by-election of the House of Councilors in 1999, and held important positions such as serving as the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism under the former Democratic Party administration.
