About twenty people received a first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on Sunday in Dijon and Sevran.

One million elderly people will be vaccinated in the coming weeks.

In the European country that is the most reluctant to be vaccinated, what monitoring has been put in place to control the side effects on the first volunteers?

For all drugs and vaccines there is already a protocol for monitoring side effects.

Doctors or patients themselves can report them on the portal of the

Ministry of Health

.

With regard to Covid-19, the Prime Minister reinforced this monitoring by authorizing on Friday the creation of a file called “Covid vaccine”.

It gathers the personal data of those who will have received the vaccine.

Caregivers or the National Health Insurance Fund will have access to certain data such as the name and contact details of patients.

But for researchers, the data collected will be anonymized.

So in the event of undesirable effects, the vaccinated people can describe their symptoms themselves on the portal or to their doctor who will fill in the form.

This information will be fed back to the Regional Pharmacovigilance Center as well as to the European level.

Consent of the elderly

After

Sevran and Dijon yesterday Sunday

, this week, 23 medical establishments welcoming the elderly will receive doses of vaccine to be injected.

On Sunday, when the long-awaited campaign kicked off, Samir Tine, head of general medicine at René-Muret hospital in Sevran spoke on the subject of consent, particularly with the elderly.

Because what makes French vaccination so special is precisely the transparent collection of clear consent from patients.

Each act of care, if only a blood pressure measurement for example, is an implicit contract between the caregiver and the patient.

A patient can refuse treatment at any time.

It is part of our daily job to collect consent,

”explains Samir Tine.

The head of general medicine at René-Muret hospital specifies that faced with a population of elderly patients, potentially suffering from cognitive disorders, those who may have an impact on the capacity for judgment, a consent procedure is planned.

“

The consent procedure provides for things well with the collection of the opinion of the trusted person, if this one has not been appointed, the collection of the opinion of the beneficiaries and also of the guardian.

 "

It now remains to be seen whether the vaccine will make it possible to stop the transmission of Covid-19.

So far, only its effectiveness against the symptoms of the disease has been proven.

The duration of protection of the vaccine is also not known.

The end of wearing a mask and barrier gestures is therefore not for today.
