A health defense council will be organized on Tuesday, the Elysee announced to AFP on Monday, the day after the first vaccinations in France against the Covid-19.

This announcement comes as several elected officials, especially in the Grand Est, are worried about a rebound in the epidemic, and while the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, did not rule out on Sunday the possibility of a third confinement of the population.

"We never rule out measures that may be necessary to protect populations. That does not mean that we have decided, but that we observe the situation hour by hour," he stressed in an interview with the Journal du Sunday.

The authorities fear the arrival of a third wave in the weeks following the end of year holidays.

They are already observing a rebound in contamination in the Grand Est, in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and in the Alpes-Maritimes department.

The mayor (PS) of Nancy, Mathieu Klein, on Monday deemed "inevitable" a local re-containment in the face of the rebound of the Covid-19 epidemic in the Grand Est, also calling for "accelerating" the vaccination campaign in the regions most most affected.

France recorded 8,822 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours, according to Public Health France on Sunday evening, insignificant data the weekend after Christmas.

We will have to wait for a rebalancing in the coming days, while the French vaccination campaign has been symbolically launched in two hospital structures for the elderly in Sevran, in Seine-Saint-Denis, then in Dijon.

In total, more than 2.55 million cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed since the start of the epidemic, including more than 20,000 on Friday.
