Leipzig (AP) - The coronavirus pandemic is apparently tearing bigger holes in the financial planning of Bundesliga soccer club RB Leipzig than initially calculated.

"We are missing income of over 30 million euros," said CEO Oliver Mintzlaff of the "Leipziger Volkszeitung" (Monday).

So far, the last 16 of the Champions League had assumed a shortfall in income below this amount.

Nevertheless, according to Mintzlaff, it was possible not to have to part with any employees.

The 45-year-old illustrates the reduced importance of viewer income with reference to television broadcasts.

"As long as the ball rolls and the TV money comes, it will go on," said Mintzlaff.

The absence of fans is a big burden in the long run.

At the beginning of the corona pandemic, the managing director had assumed a loss of a good 20 million euros.

RB had calculated early on that they would have to play without a spectator by the end of 2020.
