Erfurt (dpa / th) - The Thuringian Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture is funding the operation of the German Horticultural Museum in Erfurt with almost two million euros this year and next.

The museum made the past, present and future of horticulture tangible for all target and age groups, the ministry announced on Monday.

The money will flow in addition to the up to around 3.6 million euros with which the horticultural museum could be renovated and the permanent exhibition updated and modernized.

In addition to the usual general operating expenses, the 1.73 million euros now made available to the German Horticultural Museum Foundation are planned for measures in preparation for the Federal Horticultural Show 2021 (Buga) in Erfurt.

According to the information, this affects, among other things, the area of ​​marketing and events as well as the redesign of the foyer, but also higher operating costs for the museum as part of the large garden show project.

In the past, up to 30,000 people annually visited the horticultural museum, it said.

Much more guests were expected during the Buga.

The German Horticultural Museum Foundation is dedicated to the history and development of horticulture and garden art.

Its activities include permanent and temporary exhibitions, a specialist library with historical horticultural literature, themed gardens, museum educational, subject-specific and cultural events and tours.
