Munich / Bayreuth (dpa / lby) - Despite a breakdown in Upper Franconia, the corona vaccinations in Bavaria started quickly.

From the start on Sunday to Monday afternoon, the health authorities across the country already reported 6,000 vaccinations, mostly in nursing and retirement homes, as Health Minister Melanie Huml (CSU) announced on Monday evening.

Around 97 50 new vaccination doses arrived on Monday, and Bavaria is to receive around 215,000 vaccination doses by the end of the year.

In Upper Franconia there had been difficulties with cooling the vaccine, which should be stored at minus 70 degrees.

Only in the city and district of Bamberg did everything go as planned.

Because of this, 1000 cans were not delivered in the smallest Bavarian administrative district, as a spokesman for the Lichtenfels district office said.

This was previously decided by the district administrators of the affected districts.

The vaccinations continued throughout the Free State.

In Munich, for example, on Tuesday employees of the Großhadern and Rechts der Isar university hospitals will be given the vaccine that the German company Biontech and the US company Pfizer have jointly launched on the market.

When the vaccinations are fully up and running across Bavaria, up to 38,000 vaccinations per day should be possible.

It was initially unclear where exactly the fault was in the cooling of the Upper Franconian cans.

The government of Upper Franconia announced a thorough investigation.

In Swabia, too, there were problems with the cooling on Sunday, which quickly turned out to be marginal, so that vaccination could still be started with a slight delay.

Home residents have priority because most of the corona deaths are very old and there have been repeated mass infections in old people's homes in recent months.

Even in hospitals, doctors and nursing staff are frequently infected despite extensive protective measures.

In the second stage of the vaccination plan, the voluntary vaccinations are to be offered to all residents of Bavaria, and from the end of January citizens should be able to make personal appointments at the vaccination centers.
