The solar film is a feature in SVT's news program Aktuellt.

The film is shown once a week (Aktuellt's 21 broadcast on Fridays) from the winter solstice until the summer solstice.

- Now it is the first week after the winter solstice, December 21 so it is time for the first Sun Movie of the season.

Back after protest

The graphics themselves were made by the illustrator Sverker Lund and the photographer Béla Thinsz in March 1963 and were first shown on March 21, 1963 and were originally black and white.

It was urgent to get it ready in time for the spring equinox.

They needed music quickly and after some searching in the gramophone archive, they found the French folk song Le fiacre (Horse Chariot) on a 78-rev.

It is the cartoonist Sverker Lund himself who yawns and sighs in the film.

The film was originally only to be shown until midsummer 1963 but viewers protested and it came back.

Isn't it time to replace the graphics?

- No, people would get angry I think, says Deana Bajic, meteorologist at SVT.
