The Chinese capital, Beijing, has tightened restrictions imposed to combat the emerging coronavirus pandemic, in light of concerns that holiday travel will lead to a jump in the number of cases in the city, which recorded local infections for the fourth consecutive day yesterday.

The head of the ruling Communist Party in Beijing, Kai Zhi, chaired a meeting that urged the imposition of a state of emergency in all neighborhoods of the capital, and the closure of residential complexes and villages where cases of HIV infection are detected.

The "Shunyi" neighborhood, where all new injuries were recorded recently, announced the imposition of measures that would normally be applied in case of war, and the conduct of checks for all its 800,000 residents.

The neighboring Chaoyang District completed 234,413,000 population checks in three districts, with no positive case detected.

The government said those who have not yet received their test results cannot leave the house.

China has largely controlled the pandemic, but isolated cases reappear in a few cities.

The official Global Times newspaper stated that the authorities intend to vaccinate 50 million people most at risk of contracting the virus before the Lunar New Year holiday that begins on February 11 and lasts for a week.

In addition, the National Health Commission in China announced yesterday that it had received reports of 22 new confirmed cases of "Corona" on the Chinese mainland within 24 hours.

The new China News Agency (Xinhua) quoted the committee as saying in its daily report that 12 of the new infections are local, while the rest are coming from abroad.

No deaths were reported from the disease yesterday.

Sixteen of the injured have been discharged from hospitals on the Chinese mainland after recovery.

The total confirmed cases of "Corona" on the Chinese mainland reached 86,955 thousand cases, while the number of deaths stabilized at 4,634 people.
