Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berlin's Senator for Health Dilek Kalayci (SPD) has shown relief about the "good start" of the vaccinations against the corona virus in the capital.

Three very old women in a nursing home in Berlin-Steglitz received their first injections on Sunday morning.

It is the signal that it is never too late for the vaccination, said the local senator.

By vaccinating older people in particular, serious illnesses and a lot of suffering could be avoided.

The SPD politician appealed to family doctors to prepare their patients in the nursing homes well for vaccination and to accompany them.

The mobile vaccination team, which was deployed for the first time, "worked great," said Kalayci.

According to the health administration, Berlin initially received 9,750 vaccination doses for the start of vaccination.

First, residents of nursing homes, who are considered a particularly vulnerable group, are to be vaccinated.

60 mobile vaccination teams are available for this.

They drive to nursing homes all over the city.

In the future, 50 vaccinations per day are planned for each team.

The employees of the nursing homes should be vaccinated in parallel.

The largest of the six vaccination centers in Berlin will go into operation on Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.) with 80 vaccination booths.

It was set up in the arena hall in Treptow, where concerts and other events usually take place.
