Afghan President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani agreed to resume the second round of intra-Afghan negotiations in the Qatari capital, Doha, between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

The advisor to the Afghan president announced - on his Twitter account - that the approval came at the request of the head of the negotiations delegation and the head of the Supreme Council for Reconciliation.

He added that the next rounds of talks will be held inside Afghanistan.

Fereydoun Khwazoon, a spokesman for the Afghan Supreme Council for National Reconciliation, which is leading the peace process in the country, said:

"The second round of talks will start on January 5 (next) in Doha."

The talks come after a historic withdrawal agreement for US forces signed by the Taliban and Washington last February, under which all foreign soldiers will leave the violence-torn country by next May.
