More than 180,000 inhabitants of central and northern Congo spend their end-of-year celebrations with their feet in the water.

These inhabitants, located along the Congo River and its tributary, the Ubangi, are victims of flooding caused by the rains that have been falling continuously since October in the country.

The government, which has declared a state of humanitarian emergency, is preparing to deploy assistance and invites partners to follow it.

From Makotimpko to Liranga, via Mossaka or Loukoklela, aid workers were able to map

flooded areas in Congo-Brazzaville

, often using the helicopter.

These are hard to reach areas.

The plantations, invaded by water, experienced a premature harvest or were simply lost.

It is by canoe that many students left their homes to go to their schools, in order to take the compositions of the first term.

The situation is worrying according to Antoinette Dinga Dzondo, Minister in charge of humanitarian action.

“

As of yesterday (Sunday, December 27), we were already 180,000 people affected by the floods.

We have already exceeded the threshold that we reached

in 2019

, when we were talking about 170,000 victims,

 ”she illustrated.

The government will deploy humanitarian assistance during the week.

“

We need to provide them with emergency assistance that consists of food and non-food.

Non-food items are generally essential drugs

 , ”explained Ms. Dinga Dzondo.

The quantity of products to bring to the disaster victims has not been specified, but the government is convinced that it will not be able to cover all the needs.
