The mutated and extra contagious form of the coronavirus that has taken root in the UK makes it so for British citizens traveling.

Several countries have introduced travel bans and in Switzerland a retroactive quarantine requirement has also been set up from 21 December.

Switzerland is the only country in Europe where lift systems have been open even before Christmas.

In Verbier, the effect of the new infection situation was that more than 400 British tourists who were already at the exclusive ski resort were tracked down.

Instead of enjoying the sun, snow-capped mountains and skiing, they were quarantined in their hotels.

- Some of them stayed for a day before they unnoticed battered away under cover of darkness, says Jean-Marc Sandoz, press spokesperson in the canton of Valais to the German de.24.

The hotel owner noticed that the guests left by leaving the meals that were driven to the rooms untouched in the corridors and that no one answered the phone, writes the Swiss Sonntagszeitung.

On Sunday, only about fifty of the original 420 Britons remained at the hotel.

Where the others went is currently unclear as there were no passenger flights between Switzerland and the UK at the time of the disappearance.
