Part of a bell tower

collapses

in Salento

Bad weather caused the collapse of a portion of the bell tower of the church of the Santissimo Sacramento, in Supersano (Lecce), with the consequent detachment of some parts of the tuff blocks from the top of the artifact. The fragments that fell to the ground, on the road in front, did not cause damage to people or things, also because the collapse took place in the early hours of this morning, when the the center of the village was still deserted. Firefighters intervened to secure the bell tower, while the local police took steps to cordon off the area

the falling fragments.

Lightning may have caused the detachment of the tuffs.

The whole of Salento, as well as the whole of Puglia, in these hours is affected by a wave of bad weather with strong winds and widespread rains that have triggered the Yellow alert for hydrogeological risk.
