Straelen (dpa / lnw) - In a head-on collision between two cars in the Kleve district on the Lower Rhine, two people were fatally and four others were seriously injured.

The traffic accident occurred late Friday afternoon in Straelen.

According to the first findings of the police, a 41-year-old driver got into oncoming traffic for reasons that had not yet been clarified and collided with a car in which five people were sitting.

Among them were a 75-year-old and a 47-year-old who suffered fatal injuries in the accident.

The 50-year-old driver of the second car, a 41-year-old woman from Krefeld and an eight-year-old child were seriously injured.

The 41-year-old driver, who was traveling alone, also suffered serious injuries.

In addition to rescue workers, the police also provided victim protection.

The public prosecutor's office hired an expert.

The road was closed for several hours.
