In times of the corona pandemic and the restrictions in everyday life due to the hard lockdown, Germans are thinking about their families.

According to a survey that the opinion research institute Infratest Dimap carried out exclusively for WELT AM SONNTAG, around a quarter of Germans (28 percent) believe that their own family has become more important since the outbreak of the corona pandemic.

71 percent are of the opinion that not much has changed.

However, none of the respondents support the statement that the family is less important today.

The survey took place between December 15th and 17th among 1006 respondents.

The education and futurologist Horst Opaschowski, who also advises Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), considers the result to be remarkable.

“That sounds like a low value at first.

But 90 percent of Germans already say that family is the most important thing in life for them.

That can hardly be improved. "

For two thirds of Germans, marriage with a marriage certificate and children is still the most desirable way of life.

Opaschowski told WELT AM SONNTAG: "The Corona crisis in particular now shows how important friends and good neighborhood are when the family lives far away in another city."
