December 26, 2020The first doses of the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine have arrived at the central hospital pharmacy in Paris, just outside the capital.

As in all of Europe, the vaccination campaign will begin on December 27 also in France which for the occasion has symbolically chosen

two retirement homes for the elderly in Sevran and Dijon

.

The

19,500 doses of the vaccine

were delivered before 7am in Paris, according to the Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris, after traveling aboard a refrigerated truck from Pfizer's Puurs, Belgium plant.

In the past 24 hours, France has recorded the first case of the English variant, a French person residing in the UK currently asymptomatic and in home isolation.

She arrived "from London on 19 December and was treated in the hospital", the authorities say that they are rebuilding the entire chain of infections of the nursing staff with whom she had contact.

As reported by the ministry, this is the "first contamination with the Voc 202012/01 variant of the Covid-19 virus" detected in France.

One figure that worries is the

20,262 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours

, a rather high figure explained by the

surge in

tests carried out by the French before family reunions for the holidays.

Last week (latest data available), about 2.35 million tests were carried out, up more than 50% compared to the week before.

In total, the coronavirus outbreak has claimed the lives of 62,427 people, including 159 in the past 24 hours.

On the other hand, 112 new patients have been admitted to intensive care (compared to 186 yesterday).
