So far, there are only a number of solid concrete foundations in place on the hill a stone's throw from Naturum at Stendörren, the popular excursion destination along the coast just east of Nyköping.

But in February, a helicopter will lift building materials on site and a 12 meter high tower will be built.

- It will be in two levels and the first level will be more cozy and built-in.

Then you can go further up to the lookout point where you can see in all directions, says Anna Ingvarsson, biologist and responsible for the construction project at the County Administrative Board in Södermanland County.

"Whole school classes can go up"

The new tower is being built on the same site as the eight-meter-old tower.

It was dismantled a few years ago for safety reasons as it was perceived as too swaying.

It had been there for 15-20 years according to Anna Ingvarsson, and many have asked for a new one.

- The new tower will be larger and much more robust.

The idea is that entire school classes should be able to attend.

It did not work before, she says.

Helicopter assistance benefits the environment

The solution with a helicopter to lift the parts into place comes in handy in the mountainous terrain along the Sörmlandsleden.

- It is the most effective solution but also the one that preserves nature best, says Anna Ingvarsson.
