Garmisch-Partenkirchen / Spitzingsee (dpa / lby) - In the Upper Bavarian excursion areas, the situation has largely remained relaxed on the holidays.

The Bavarian Zugspitzbahn in Garmisch-Partenkirchen announced on Saturday that there was no rush due to the weather, especially at Christmas and on the first holiday.

The managing director of the Brauneck and Wallbergbahnen, Peter Lorenz, also spoke of quiet days.

On Saturday there was a lot more traffic with partly sunny weather and some fresh snow.

Since the lifts were in lockdown, it was time to walk up the mountain.

On the slopes on the Spitzingsee, which are otherwise populated by skiers, snowshoeers and tourers, pedestrians and families with sleds were on their way.

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, too, many hiked up the slopes.

The lift operators have snowed the slopes in many places despite the inactive lift operation.

«We still hope for January.

Then we need the snow, "said Lorenz.

In response to the rush of day trippers despite the ski lifts being closed, parking fees were raised significantly in some places.

At the Stümpfling car park on Spitzingsee, it is 10 euros a day, toilets are open for this.

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, 15 euros are due on Hausberg and Kreuzeck.

"Many locals have been using their bicycles since the fees were collected or come on foot to start a ski tour or to go tobogganing - thus relieving the roads," said a spokeswoman for the Zugspitzbahn.
